IEEE African Workshop on Smart Sustainable Cities and Communities

Scope:

The 1st IEEE African Workshop on Smart Sustainable Cities and Communities (IEEE ASC2’2019) promotes Smart city concepts and applications developed for cities and communities in Africa. It focuses on concrete realizations which adopt the smart city concept to tackle communities’ needs and socio-economic challenges.

This workshop will be held on October 14 2019, in conjunction with 5th IEEE Smart City Conference – ISC2 2019. https://ieee-isc2.org

The aim of IEEE ASC2’2019 is to bring together researchers, practitioners, and communities working in industry and academic on developing Innovative Smart Sustainable Cities projects and solutions and to provide them with a platform to report on the latest developments, achievements, deployments, technology trends, and research findings as well as initiatives relative to Smart Cities and their applications related to African Countries.

IEEE ASC2’2019 supported by IEEE Africa Council is also aiming to promote original R&D activities and innovations which target solutions enabling sustainable future smart cities. Approaches such as Frugality, Inclusiveness and citizen’s engagement in participatory bottom-up city transformation process facilitated by smart city tools and solutions are particularly appreciated and encouraged to be presented.

The 1st IEEE ASC2’2019 will include a highly selective program of technical papers, accompanied by panel discussions and keynote presentations. We welcome high-quality papers that describe original and unpublished research papers addressing the real issues, challenges and needs in building smart cities for now and future on the following technical areas of (but not limited to) smart Sustainable Cities and Communities.

  • Cloud Computing, Big Data and open data for Smart Cities
  • Renewable energy and energy transition in Africa
  • E-health
  • E-education
  • Application Scenarios and Real-world Deployments for Smart Cities in Africa
  • Applications for Smart Rural Communities
  • etc.

We are pleased to invite you to submit your papers to IEEE ASC2’2019. All submissions will be reviewed on the basis of relevance, originality, importance, and clarity.

Submission Procedure:

Prospective authors are invited to contribute high-quality original papers via for peer-review at EDAS System. https://edas.info/N25795

Full papers describing complete works of research (up to 8 pages). Templates and detailed formatting instructions available from the workshop webpage.

All submitted papers must be unpublished and not considered elsewhere for publication. The papers should be written in English and formatted according to the IEEE conference template. https://www.ieee.org/conferences/publishing/templates.html

Publications:

Workshop content will be submitted for inclusion into IEEE Xplore as well as other Abstracting and Indexing (A&I) databases.

Awards:

The workshop committee will announce two awards:

  • Best Paper Award
  • Best Student Paper Award
